Barnstable is an excellent base for exploring North Devon and Courtyard Cottage couldn't be situated better. The best spot is the patio above the garage which is equipped with seats and catches the afternoon and evening sun. The owners are very welcoming and friendly and willing to give advice on visiting local sites, pubs and restaurants but manage to not intrude on your privacy. This is probably the best cottage we have ever stayed in and is certainly high up on our list of places we would like to visit again.
Courtyard Cottage offers spacious two bedroom self catering accommodation in a lovely rural setting, just outside the North Devon town of Barnstaple. With a bright open plan living space, two bedrooms ( a double and twin), family bathroom and plenty of outdoor space, it offers couples, friends and small families a fantastic base to relax in stunning countryside, but with the North Devon coast, Exmoor, numerous local attractions, and the fantastic amenities of Barnstaple all within a short drive away.
This charming countryside cottage has been lovingly converted from three farm buildings, where the main living space was historically a stable and hayloft, the twin bedroom was a dairy and the double bedroom used to be a school room for the children from the farm and Roborough House.
Arranged over one level, the main living space offers a comfortable lounge area with a huge sofa, wood-burning stove, and a smart TV. There is a dining table that comfortably seats 4, whilst the kitchen towards the back is well-equipped with everything you need for a self-catering holiday. Stylishly presented, appliances include an induction hob, electric oven, washer/dryer, fridge/freezer, microwave and a coffee machine.
The two bedrooms include a master bedroom and a twin room. The master bedroom has a king-sized bed, plenty of storage, as well as a stylish wash basin unit and en-suite shower room. There is also access leading out to one of the many terraces available, perfect for enjoying a morning cuppa or a glass of wine in the evening. The twin room is well presented, and has two full size single beds, and plenty of light from the huge windows. It is serviced by a separate family bathroom that is fitted with a large walk in shower, wash basin and WC.
Outside, there are plenty of outdoor spaces available for guests to enjoy the countryside views, and outdoor furniture has been thoughtfully provided. There is access to an outdoor hose for washing down sandy wetsuits and surfboards, and storage for bikes and surfboards too.
Courtyard Cottage is a pet free cottage, as there is nearby livestock in the fields and there is no enclosed garden.

Tucked away on the outskirts of the North Devon town of Barnstaple, Courtyard Cottage offers a great base for exploring this part of Devon. The town itself boasts all your local amenities, and a fantastic array of eateries as well as a theatre, cinema and bowling alley. For walkers and cyclists, the Tarka Trail offers miles of car free paths, popular pitstops include Fremington Quay, the waterside pubs in Instow, or perhaps the bustling village of Braunton.
The North Devon coast is also within easy reach. Choose from pretty fishing villages such as Appledore, a walk along the estuary beach at Instow or miles of golden sands at Westward Ho!, Saunton, Croyde and Woolacombe.
Popular days out include RHS Rosemoor, National Trust Arlington Court or a visit to Clovelly to name a few.
