Ilfracombe is a lively seaside resort on the North Devon coast. It has been made famous in recent years, with the arrival of Damien Hirst’s statue “Verity” on its harbour. All year round, tourists flock to its pretty quay lined with an array of gift shops, ice cream shops, restaurants and fish and chip shops. There are the usual seafront attractions, but it is also home to historic Victorian ‘Tunnels Beaches’, increasingly popular for weddings, its Landmark Theatre, aquarium, many art galleries and good quality restaurants, including Thomas Carr 1873, recently awarded a Michelin star. Throughout the busy summer months, there is always something taking place in this busy seaside town, quirky events include ‘All things Morris’, ‘South West Bird Man’ and ‘Victorian Week’. It is also surrounded by stunning coastline, and there are plenty of walks for all abilities whilst enjoying some spectacular coastal and countryside scenery. The coastal village of Woolacombe, with its bustling village centre and its three miles of golden sands and excellent surf is also only just a short drive away for days at the beach. And just a little further along the coast, Croyde and Saunton also renowned for their stunning beaches are within easy reach. In the opposite direction, the wilds of Exmoor National Park are just a short 20 minute drive away. A day visit to Lynton and Lynmouth is well recommended.
