Whilst the town is a lively, vibrant town full of great shops, pubs and restaurants, it is the lovely sandy beach that people flock to Westward Ho! for. The beach is backed by a pebble ridge and is very popular with surfers and wind-surfers. At the far end of the beach is Northam Burrows Nature Reserve which is accessible to the public and a great place to wander along with the dog, which are allowed at the Burrows end of the beach all year round. To the back of all this is The Royal Westward Ho! Golf Club, the oldest links course in the country and a Championship course.
At either end of the town there are lovely walks which are all marked and well maintained, so you can wander along the coastal path and head up to Abbotsham or Northam and have a pint in the local and then stroll back. Northam is a pretty village set high above Westward Ho! but still close enough to walk to the beach or the Burrows. It has good pubs and restaurants including Memories, an award winning restaurant.
