Smithy Cottage, a cosy two bedroom cottage for two or small families offers the perfect base to explore North Devon. Situated in a quiet valley just outside the picturesque village of West Down, this charming holiday let is also only 4 miles from the popular coastal resorts of Ilfracombe and Woolacombe, and not far from Combe Martin.
Tastefully decorated and recently renovated, Smithy Cottage is equipped to a good standard throughout, guests can be assured to have a relaxing and comfortable stay at this self-catering countryside holiday let.
Sleeping up to four guests, there is a cosy lounge area with new stylish and comfortable duck egg sofas, TV with DVD player, board games and a fold-out dining table. A separate well-equipped kitchen comes complete with an electric oven, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine.
Upstairs, two bedrooms offer plenty of countryside charm with beamed ceilings and farmhouse doors and are presented to a high standard. These include a charming double bedroom with a double bed and plenty of storage, as well as twin room with full size single beds and a built-in wardrobe.
Guests at Lower Aylescott are welcome to enjoy and relax in over 4 acres of private grounds and fish in the two lakes, well-stocked with carp, bream, rudd and tench. Please remember to bring your own license, rods and bait. The carp are roughly 30cm to 50cm, weighing between 3lbs to 5lbs, some will be smaller, some larger. As the lakes are only fished by guests at Lower Aylescott, the fish tend to be long, lean and healthy as they aren’t over fed. A long lean Ghost Carp was spotted in the lake this month (June 2019.
With plenty of grassed lawn and a fantastic new outdoor children's play area. there is ample of space for children to play safely. Kids will enjoy the new climbing wall, slide and rope ladder. Access to the lakes are secured by fencing and gates.

Tucked away in the valley, the cottages at Lower Aylescott are set just outside the village of West Down. The village itself has a church, well-stocked community village shop, parish hall and excellent pub and is also only a ten-minute drive away from the larger village of Braunton and the coastal town of Ilfracombe, which both boast an excellent choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants.
The stunning North Devon coastline and the glorious golden sandy beach can easily be reached at Woolacombe, only 4 miles away. The beaches at Croyde and Saunton are again all only a short drive away, as well as Exmoor National Park and numerous family attractions including Combe Martin Wildlife and Dinosaur Park, Exmoor Zoo, Arlington Court to name a few.
